Our Toroidal Transformer Upgrade is a new product here at Welborme Labs and is intended to replace the wall wart transformer that is provided with your audio gear. There are two types of wall warts. The first type is an AC-to-DC voltage converter which drops the house level AC voltage (115V or 230V) down to a usable level and converts it to a DC voltage. This is a complete external power supply. How do you tell the difference between an AC or DC wall wart? Most wall warts have the voltage specified on its label. A DC voltage device will typically be labelled 5Vdc, 12Volts DC and so on. An AC wall wart voltage is typically specified by a squiggly line before the value, i.e. ~5V or ~5 Volts. You may also wish to consult the owners manual provided with the piece of equipment.

If your wall wart is an AC-to-AC voltage transformer then our Toroidal Transformer Upgrade can help to improve your sound. Most wall wart transformers are underpowered and do not take into consideration peak current demanded by dynamic music. If the transformer cannot deliver the current peaks transient information will be lost and dynamics will be squashed. The result is similar to that heard while listening to most FM radio stations! The sound may be clean and clear.... but it is lifefless!

You can regain those dynamics by upgrading to a larger transformer with more current capacity plus, Toroidal transformers are known for passing less AC hash and noise into the audio signal path! Additional benefits are derived from our upgrade through the use of a ceramic fuse and a new heavier gauge umbilical cable between the transformer and audio equipment. A standard IEC connector is included so you can try out your favorite brand of power cords - YOU CAN'T DO THAT WITH A WALL WART!! The AC power cord is NOT included and must be purchased separately.

The sonic results achieved include a blacker background with excellent low level resolution and detail. An expanded soundstage along with deeper/tighter bass and much improved dynamics. We're confident you will hear the improvement!

The aluminum chassis measures just: 4.25"W(108mm) x 7"D(178mm) x 1.8"H(46mm) and is available in red, black or clear silver anodized finish.
